Q&A With Amy Smart

Casaza: How did you get your start?
Amy Smart:
I started modeling and doing commercials as a teenager and taking acting classes in LA. My first acting job was in an MTV Rock the Vote campaign. I slowly got bigger acting roles.

C: How would you describe your style?
AS:
Organic, cozy, bohemian.

C: Where do you get new ideas and inspiration?
AS:
I find inspiration all over really; it’s in magazines, different Instagram design pages, or being in nature.

C: Favorite room in the house?
AS:
I love hanging out in our living room. It’s relaxing with no T.V. in it and a great communal place to have our coffees in the morning, read books to our daughter, have good conversations, light a fire, and have a glass of wine at night.

C: Recent project that inspired you?
AS:
We are renovating our kitchen, and there are so many gorgeous inspirational kitchens out there! It’s been so much fun to create the one we want with different elements we love.

C: Favorite texture/pattern/color?
AS:
Rose Tarlow makes really beautiful fabrics… We used one on our upholstered bed, its 100% hemp in the pattern Montague and color Mineral on Fog. It feels very natural and organic, and yet upscale and refined.

C: What is “good design” to you?
AS:
I like a room to feel clean and inviting with organic pieces mixed in, like pottery, plants, wood accents.

C: Pack your bag! You’re moving into a famous home. Whose is it?
AS:
An Italian Villa on Lake Como, maybe George Clooney’s? Or a British countryside estate!

C: What’s your rule when entertaining?
AS:
Have enough tasty food and drinks, and always make them feel at home and comfortable.

C: Best advice for DIYers?
AS:
Don’t be scared to be creative!! Go for it, you can always redo it if it doesn’t work out.

C: Best advice for those hiring a pro?
AS:
Get recommendations from others, or read their reviews online.

C: How do you take your coffee?
AS:
With cream and a little sugar!
